UAE Pioneers Gigascale Renewable Energy Project
The United Arab Emirates has commenced construction on the world's first gigascale renewable energy project designed to deliver round-the-clock power. Spearheaded by Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), this initiative seeks to redefine renewable energy by addressing its intermittency.
Combining a 5.2GW solar photovoltaic plant with a 19GWh battery storage system, the project aims to supply 1GW of baseload clean power continuously. It incorporates advanced AI technologies to enhance system efficiency and predictability.
This $6 billion endeavor is expected to create over 10,000 jobs while preventing approximately 5.7 million tonnes of CO2 emissions yearly. Scheduled to be operational by 2027, it exemplifies the UAE's commitment to economic diversification and technological innovation.
