Medacta Joins International Dino-Revival Project

Medacta Group SA announced its participation in an ambitious international research project aimed at reviving the Tyrannosaurus rex using preserved DNA. The initiative, led by Resurgence Biotechnology, involves a multidisciplinary team from ETH Zurich, the World Regenesis Lab, and the Natural Science Museum London.

The project faces a significant challenge: the regenerated bone quality of the T-Rex may be too weak to support its massive frame. Medacta, renowned for its joint replacement technology, has been selected to develop an orthopaedic hip prosthesis for the T-Rex. This effort involves reconstructing the biomechanics of the dinosaur using fossil data and CT scans to design a load-bearing implant.

The project is located near Morcote, Switzerland. The local mayors have welcomed the initiative, anticipating economic benefits from increased tourism. Medacta's CEO, Francesco Siccardi, humorously hinted at the project’s unusual scope, underscoring its scale by wishing everyone a happy April Fools' Day.
