Medicure Completes Enrollment in MEND-PNPO Phase 3 Clinical Trial

Medicure Inc., a pharmaceutical company based in Winnipeg, has announced the completion of patient enrollment for its Phase 3 MEND-PNPO clinical trial. This trial focuses on testing MC-1 for treating Pyridox(am)ine 5'-Phosphate Oxidase (PNPO) deficiency, an ultra-rare genetic disorder causing severe seizures in infants.

With 10 patients enrolled, the trial has met its enrollment goal. PNPO deficiency results from mutations preventing the production of adequate vitamin B6 levels, leading to severe health issues if untreated. Currently, MC-1 is not FDA-approved, and its safety and effectiveness remain unestablished. However, it has received key designations from both the FDA and EMA, facilitating its development for treating associated seizures.

Medicure is advancing toward a New Drug Application submission, aiming to provide the first approved treatment for PNPO deficiency. The company aims to present further data at upcoming medical conferences.
