Neoen Secures Long-term Contract for 200 MW Battery in Ontario
Neoen, a prominent renewable energy company, has successfully obtained a 20-year capacity services contract for a 190 MW / 8-hour battery from Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). This advanced battery, sized at 200 MW / 1,600 MWh, is strategically located 15 km west of Dryden, Ontario. It will optimize energy storage by holding electricity during low demand periods and dispensing it during peak times.
The project, co-owned with Eagle Lake First Nation in a 50% equity partnership, will commence construction in 2028, aiming for operational status by 2030. It promises significant local economic benefits including job creation. This initiative increases Neoen's secured capacity in Ontario to 918 MW and reaches 1,168 MW across Canada.
With three other notable projects in Ontario, Neoen continues to expand its influence. This achievement underscores Neoen's commitment to advancing sustainable energy and forming strategic alliances with First Nations communities.
