MTG-I2 Completes Europe's Weather Satellite Network
The MTG-Imager 2 (MTG-I2) weather satellite was launched successfully from French Guiana, marking a milestone for weather forecasting and Earth observation in Europe. This launch completes the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) constellation. Marco Fuchs, CEO of OHB SE, expressed pride in this achievement alongside ESA and EUMETSAT.
OHB played a pivotal role in developing the MTG fleet under Thales Alenia Space’s leadership. This fleet, consisting of four MTG Imagers and two MTG Sounders, aims to enhance weather forecasting. The satellites provide data with improved resolution, allowing detailed observations.
With MTG-I2, Europe now has a full operational constellation for high-frequency weather tracking. The satellite data aids in severe weather monitoring and benefits society and the environment.
