OHB and Rheinmetall Unite Germany's Space Sector for SATCOMBw 4

On June 25, 2026, OHB SE and Rheinmetall AG hosted a significant event in Bremen, bringing together numerous participants from Germany's space ecosystem. The focus was on the upcoming SATCOMBw 4 satellite communications system. Around 80 SMEs and start-ups showcased their capabilities, highlighting their potential roles in this ambitious initiative. The meeting aimed to foster an efficient industrial network for SATCOMBw 4's development.

The project demands a robust collaboration between established companies, SMEs, and innovative start-ups. The dialogue initiated by OHB and Rheinmetall seeks to meet current needs while also considering technological advancements for future phases. The exchange aimed at building a foundation for a resilient and adaptable industrial network in Germany.

Marco Fuchs, CEO of OHB SE, emphasized the importance of strong partnerships in space programs. His counterpart, Timo Haas from Rheinmetall, highlighted the complex requirements of SATCOMBw 4, underlining the need for both technological innovation and experienced execution. Both companies have a joint venture, OHB Rheinmetall Space Networks, and have submitted a proposal to the German Ministry of Defense.
