OHB and Rheinmetall Unveil Joint Venture for Military Satellite Communications

OHB and Rheinmetall have formed a joint venture named “OHB Rheinmetall Space Networks GmbH” in Bremen. The objective is to supply the Bundeswehr with a robust and secure communication system within the SATCOMBw Level 4 framework. This venture will manage development, integration, delivery, and operation, ensuring secure transmission of all communications.

The company's managing directors are Dennis Winkelmann and Alexander Beyer. Following approval by the Federal Cartel Office, the company is officially registered in Bremen. Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte remarked that this cooperation enhances Bremen’s status as a hub for space and maritime defense technologies.

This initiative is expected to bolster Europe’s technological independence and potentially contribute to NATO partnerships. It highlights the combination of military systems expertise with space capabilities in Germany, emphasizing the need for secure, space-based communication for military success.
