Pakistani Banks Fall Short in Climate and Biodiversity Policies

According to a new benchmark by Fair Finance Pakistan, seven major Pakistani banks barely scored on climate and biodiversity policies. Their average scores were 1.12 out of 10 for climate and 1.69 for biodiversity. This reveals a significant disparity between their sustainability commitments and the safeguards governing their financing.

The report highlights that policy coverage is significantly higher for banks’ own operations compared to projects they finance. This discrepancy points to a gap where banks' financial power could influence environmental and social outcomes.

Currently, Pakistani banks show a lack of consistent support for national climate agendas. Fair Finance Pakistan urges banks to publish milestones, improve biodiversity safeguards, and disclose emissions.
