Phase II Clinical Trial of NV-387 Oral Gummies for Ebola Set to Begin

NanoViricides, Inc. has announced the imminent launch of a Phase II clinical trial for NV-387 Oral Gummies, aimed at treating Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The trial targets Bundibugyo Ebolavirus amid the expanding Ebola outbreak. Professor Patrick Katoto will lead the trial, backed by regulatory approval from DRC's agency ACOREP.

NV-387 is the only oral treatment in consideration, positioned advantageously due to its oral delivery in resource-limited settings. With the outbreak affecting six provinces and over 4,945 confirmed cases, an effective treatment is urgent. Travel and resource limitations have hampered efforts but are not expected to delay the first patient dosing significantly.

Comparatively, other trials like the "PARTNERS" trial require over 1,000 patients, potentially delaying results. NV-387's oral nature sets it apart from infusion treatments, offering logistical and practical benefits in deployment.
