Polaris Renewable Energy Advances Punta Lima Battery Storage Project with Key Contract
Polaris Renewable Energy Inc. has secured a contract with Trina Energy Storage Solutions for its Punta Lima battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Puerto Rico. This initiative falls under Puerto Rico's Accelerated Storage Addition Program, aimed at bolstering grid reliability through utility-scale energy storage.
The project will feature a 35.7 MW system with an eight-hour duration delivering 71.4 MW through two four-hour blocks. Estimated capital expenditures range from $55 million to $60 million, funded with internal cash. The BESS is expected to contribute approximately $12.5 million of EBITDA in its first operational year.
Deliveries of BESS containers are planned for March/April 2027, with commercial operations expected in Q3 2027 under a 20-year term. Polaris CEO Marc Murnaghan highlights this as a critical step in their investment and commitment to Puerto Rico's energy transition.
