Preply Secures $150 Million in Series D Funding

Preply, a leader in language learning, has raised $150 million in a Series D funding round led by WestCap, valuing the company at $1.2 billion. Goldman Sachs International was the sole placement agent for this transaction. This investment aims to enhance Preply's platform, which combines human-led instruction with AI support. The company connects over 100,000 tutors with learners in 180 countries, offering lessons in more than 90 languages.

With the new capital, Preply plans to expand its AI and data capabilities, grow its product and engineering teams, and accelerate global expansion. The funding will also help in further developing their AI-supported tutoring co-pilot suite. This comes as the global direct-to-consumer language learning market is projected to reach $227 billion by 2035.

The company reports that one-third of its learners advance a full Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level in just 12 weeks. This underscores the effectiveness of combining human guidance with AI. The investment reflects confidence in Preply's mission to democratize access to high-quality learning globally.
