Redwood AI Explores Pathogen Tracking Collaboration in Africa

Redwood AI Corp. has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with Dr. Placide Sesonga from The University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda to explore pathogen tracking using AI genomics between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The initiative aims to enhance preparedness and early detection of emerging infectious diseases in Central and East Africa. While the LOI is non-binding, it supports collaborative planning and discussions for future definitive agreements.

The focus will initially be on high-priority surveillance regions, employing a "One-health" approach that considers zoonotic disease potential. The system combines pathogen monitoring, metagenomic sequencing, geospatial, and Redwood’s AI platform to identify outbreak signals earlier.

This collaboration highlights the need for coordinated regional systems in light of recent Ebola outbreaks. It aims for broader preparedness for various infectious diseases. The parties plan to engage with health authorities and academic partners for protocol and framework development.

Redwood's President, Kristian Thorlund, emphasized the potential benefits of integrating scientific and AI advances for improved public health decision-making in the region.
