Saint-Gobain to Launch Low-Carbon Production Line in Spain

Saint-Gobain has announced a €40 million investment to enhance and decarbonize its insulation plant in Azuqueca, near Madrid, Spain. This investment will modernize the stone wool production line by installing a state-of-the-art electric furnace, replacing the current fossil fuel-powered one. The Azuqueca plant will be the first in the Group to feature an electric line, with new facilities expected to be operational in the first half of 2026.
This upgrade will increase stone wool production capacity by approximately 40%, addressing the rising demand for sustainable construction materials in the Spanish market. Moreover, it will reduce the plant's CO₂ emissions by 70% compared to 2017 levels. Benefiting from a Power Purchase Agreement with ENDESA, the plant will use zero-carbon electricity until 2034.
These efforts align with Saint-Gobain’s goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, enhancing its range of sustainable insulation solutions.
