Sandoz Expands Biosimilar Capabilities with New Development Centre

Sandoz Group AG has opened a new biosimilar development centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia, marking 20 years since the launch of the world's first biosimilar. This USD 99 million facility, spanning 10,000 m², employs over 200 scientists, significantly enhancing Sandoz's in-house development capabilities. The centre is positioned to leverage USD 320 billion in biologic patent expiries anticipated over the next decade, often referred to as the 'golden decade'.

The centre, which is fully digitally integrated, supports end-to-end drug development and is a crucial part of Sandoz's strategy to bring affordable biosimilars to market more rapidly. It joins other facilities in Germany and the UK, forming a comprehensive development and manufacturing network. This expansion is part of a larger USD 1.1 billion investment in Slovenia, including facilities in Lendava and Brnik, and a new site in Toulouse, France.
