Sanofi's MenQuadfi Gains EU Approval for Infant Vaccination
Sanofi has announced that the European Commission approved extending MenQuadfi's use to infants as young as six weeks. This decision allows broader protection against invasive meningococcal disease, covering serogroups A, C, W, and Y. Previously approved for those 12 months and older, MenQuadfi now aligns with infant immunization schedules, enhancing early protection.
Invasive meningococcal disease poses a severe threat, especially to infants, due to its rapid progression and high mortality rates. With approximately 10-15% fatality even with treatment, and debilitating complications for survivors, the extension addresses significant public health needs.
The approval follows positive assessments and robust immunogenicity data supporting the vaccine's efficacy and safety in infants. Sanofi emphasizes the importance of this development, offering healthcare providers a vital tool to combat this life-threatening infection from early weeks of life.
