SBO Advances Geothermal Energy with Enhanced Drilling Technology

Schoeller-Bleckmann Oilfield Equipment AG (SBO) is aggressively accelerating the development of geothermal energy through advanced drilling technology. In Oregon, USA, at Newberry Crater, SBO's technology demonstrated efficiency, drilling 3,150 meters in 15 days—an 80% improvement from 2025. This achievement was mirrored in Slovakia with the completion of three deep wells.

SBO’s diversification strategy leverages its complete product portfolio for geothermal applications. Their advanced tools have proven effective in geothermal projects aiming for 7,000-meter depths at 400°C. The geothermal sector's growth is driven by rising electricity demand and the need for sustainable energy sources.

SBO aims to reach MEUR 900 in sales by 2030, with geothermal energy contributing significantly alongside other areas like lithium drilling and carbon capture. This transition helps decrease SBO's dependence on the oil and gas sector by shifting core capabilities to emerging energy demands.
