Simcere Pharmaceutical Partners with Stanford Medicine for IPF Research
Simcere Pharmaceutical Group Limited has entered into a research collaboration with Stanford Medicine. This partnership aims to develop innovative therapies for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a chronic lung disease with limited treatment options. Under the agreement, Simcere will finance the study of a novel molecule, and if successful, it will obtain full global rights to the resulting product.
The project will be conducted with expertise from Stanford Medicine's renowned laboratories, led by Dr. Chaitan Khosla and Dr. Cui Bianxiao. Dr. Khosla is a distinguished expert in LYTAC-related technologies and Dr. Bianxiao specializes in fibrosis research.
IPF is characterized by irreversible lung tissue fibrosis leading to respiratory failure, with a median survival of about three years post-diagnosis. Current treatments offer limited efficacy.
Simcere's Chief Investment Officer, Zhou Gaobo, emphasized the strategic importance of this second collaborative project with Stanford. Professor Khosla highlighted the urgent clinical need for targeted IPF therapies and expressed optimism about the partnership's potential breakthroughs.
