Slovakia Unveils 13th Tatra Ice Dome in High Tatras

The Tatra Ice Dome, a hallmark winter attraction in Slovakia's High Tatras, has opened its doors for the season. This year's theme centers on Rome's Basilica of St. John Lateran, embracing intricate frozen architecture and light displays. The opening symbolizes the start of the winter season.

This year, the ice dome honors Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV, featuring portraits of six popes along with a replica of the basilica’s façade, the Holy Door, and the papal throne. Sculptor Adam Bakoš, alongside an international team, crafted the ice structure using 225 tonnes of ice over 25 days.

Located in Hrebienok, the dome is accessible via a funicular from Starý Smokovec and remains open until April 2026, offering free entry. The attraction combines natural beauty, culture, and skiing opportunities, making it a prime winter destination.
