SMX and A*STAR Launch Plastic Circularity Initiative

SMX (Security Matters) PLC and Singapore's A*STAR have announced a new partnership to develop a national plastic circularity platform. This collaboration aims to advance Singapore's Zero Waste Masterplan by implementing a system that allows molecular-level traceability of plastics from waste collection to recycling.

By using SMX's chemical molecular marking technology and A*STAR's digital and spectroscopic detection capabilities, the initiative will create a system to mark, track, and analyze plastics throughout their lifecycle. This could transform Singapore's waste management, enabling more efficient recycling processes and minimizing landfill use.

The initial phase, starting in early 2026, will introduce a "digital passport" for plastics, enhancing transparency across the supply chain. This strategy is expected to significantly increase regional recycling rates and provide economic benefits by reducing incineration costs and creating a market for recycled materials.
