SoftBank Corp. is transforming from a traditional telecom carrier to an AI infrastructure provider. At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, SoftBank revealed its strategy to enhance telecom infrastructure for the AI era. This shift focuses on transitioning from moving raw data to providing distributed AI workloads across edge and cloud environments.

The new AI-native infrastructure, termed Telco AI Cloud, allows the network to function as a central nervous system, enabling real-time AI computations directly within the infrastructure. With AI-RAN-based MEC, the technology supports real-time decision-making, enhancing the capabilities of robotics and smart systems.

Partnering with companies like Yaskawa Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, SoftBank is expanding its ecosystem for global AI innovation and adoption. By open-sourcing technologies like the Dynamic Scoring Framework, the company aims to foster a standardized AI-RAN environment worldwide.
