On June 2, 2026, La Française de l'Énergie (FDE) announced the commissioning of two green power generation units at the Angres site in Pas-de-Calais, as part of its initiative to exploit abandoned mine methane. This marks the initial stage of a plan to double low-carbon electricity capacity over the next three years.

The authorization for 18 sites transferred by the French government was secured via the recent Prefectural Order. The Angres site commenced operations on June 1, with each unit contributing to the electricity needs of approximately 3,500 households and reducing CO2 emissions significantly.

FDE’s commitment to green energy is underscored by their acquisition of 16 additional power units, enhancing their methane-based energy production. These facilities, including those at Rouvignies soon to follow, benefit from a 15-year feed-in tariff with EDF, enhancing long-term revenue prospects.
