Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Honors Erwin Olaf with Posthumous Exhibition

The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is set to open "Erwin Olaf – Freedom," the first major retrospective dedicated to the artist since his untimely death in 2023. The exhibition spans Olaf's prolific career, highlighting both his famous and lesser-known works. It will run from October 11, 2025, to March 1, 2026.

Erwin Olaf, a renowned Dutch photographer, was celebrated for his staged photography and themes exploring identity, sexuality, and equality. The exhibit showcases the evolution of his work from his early black-and-white reportage to his studio photography. Iconic series such as "Royal Blood" and newer works like "Muses" are featured.

Curator Charl Landvreugd aims to honor Olaf's multifaceted artistry, guided by director Rein Wolfs' vision. Stedelijk Museum fulfills Olaf's last wish to exhibit in a space he respected, yet held complex feelings towards.
