STMicroelectronics partners with Qualcomm to optimize wearables

STMicroelectronics, a semiconductor specialist, is integrating its secure wireless and sensor technologies into Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. This collaboration aims to enhance wearables with embedded artificial intelligence. The proposed solutions promise increased active detection and energy efficiency, paving the way for applications such as health tracking and activity recognition.

ST's intelligent inertial module, equipped with machine learning capabilities, works in conjunction with the Snapdragon Wear Elite to offload certain tasks from the main processor, thereby optimizing battery life and device form factor. Thanks to its compatibility with ST's NFC controller, the platform offers secure contactless services.

With development tools and global support, the collaboration between ST and Qualcomm promises to facilitate integration and reduce time to market for OEMs, leading to new advances in the wearables sector.
