EIB Grants €450 Million Loan to Thales for R&D
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has provided Thales a €450 million loan to support its research and development initiatives in aeronautics and radar technologies. Scheduled to run until 2027, the program aims to improve the safety and efficiency of civil and military flights and modernize radar systems. This financing aligns with the EIB's TechEU program, targeting innovation and technological development.
This marks Thales' first collaboration with the EIB and is one of the largest loans ever awarded in the security and defense sector. EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle emphasized the importance of innovation in this field, reinforcing European sovereignty.
Since 2024, the EIB Group has intensified its support for European security and defense projects, allocating 3.5% of its 2025 financing to these areas. The EIB has 80 projects under review, aimed at enhancing EU security and defense capabilities.
