on African Medicines Agency

The African Medicines Agency celebrates its first year of operation

The African Medicines Agency (AMA), since its launch in October 2025, is celebrating its first anniversary by introducing new platforms to improve regulation and support drug manufacturing in Africa. The event was marked by AMA Week, held in Kigali, Rwanda, which brought together various stakeholders in the sector to discuss progress made and future priorities.

At this meeting, the WADA established technical committees to provide independent scientific advice and launched hubs focused on capacity building and regulatory innovation. These initiatives aim to harmonize national requirements and streamline the regulatory process for manufacturers seeking to operate in multiple African markets.

As the agency enters its second year, it continues to focus on improving the quality and efficiency of regulatory systems across the continent, with a clear objective: to ensure timely and safe access to medicines for all Africans.
