The market for rechargeable vehicles in Switzerland remains in difficulty
In November 2025, the passenger car market in Switzerland and Liechtenstein showed no positive developments for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, despite the efforts of importers. Demand remained below climate expectations, partly due to high electricity prices, insufficient charging infrastructure, and a lack of economic incentives.
The total number of cars registered from January to November 2025 was 3.4% lower than in 2024. Fully electric cars accounted for 24.3% of the market in November, while plug-in hybrids reached 11.5%, figures remaining below the target of 50% plug-in vehicles.
Auto-suisse calls for more flexible policies to encourage electric mobility, stressing the need to remove the 4% tariff and abandon new taxes.
