Widespread Ghosting in Job Applications Reveals Labor Market Challenges
A recent survey by The Stepstone Group highlights a significant issue affecting the job market: ghosting. Nearly 64% of job seekers experience ghosting, receiving no response after applications, with 44% occurring immediately after submission. Surprisingly, 9.5% receive no follow-up post-interview.
This lack of feedback stifles the labor market, leaving talented individuals without clarity and companies missing potential hires. The study, which involved over 8,100 respondents, including 500 HR managers, underscores the increasing pressure on HR departments to fill positions amid economic uncertainty and a skilled labor shortage.
Interestingly, ghosting is not limited to job seekers. Approximately 70% of HR managers report candidates ghosting them, often due to a change in interest or lengthy processes. These dynamics alter perceptions of power in the job market, with HR and applicants feeling at a disadvantage.
