THX Pharma and the Beyond Batten Disease Foundation (BBDF) announced a new European patent for Batten-1, a promising treatment for juvenile Batten disease (CLN3). The patent, co-owned by BBDF, Baylor College of Medicine, and Cardiff University, has been exclusively licensed to THX Pharma, extending its protection in Europe until July 2041.

Batten-1 is protected through a triad of strategic approaches: the newly granted therapeutic-use patent, a proprietary formulation patent, and orphan drug designations from the U.S. FDA and European Commission. This layered protection aims to secure Batten-1's market position well beyond 2040, enhancing its appeal to partners like Biocodex.

The patent supports ongoing regulatory applications for the Batten-1-02 Phase 3 clinical trial. This development underscores the foundation's effort to convert scientific research into viable treatments.
