Translumina Commences SPARX Trial to Evaluate Drug-Coated Balloons

Translumina officially launched the SPARX Global Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT), a multinational effort in Lucerne, Switzerland, and New Delhi, India. This trial compares a drug-coated balloon (DCB) strategy with drug-eluting stents (DES) for patients with complex coronary artery disease. The SPARX trial aims to provide comparative evidence for the "leave nothing behind" treatment strategy, potentially influencing future clinical guidelines.

Prof. Adnan Kastrati from the German Heart Centre emphasized the trial's importance in addressing the limited evidence for DCBs in coronary disease. Prof. Florim Cuculi from Luzerner Kantonsspital highlighted the trial's comprehensive design involving 1,380 patients across 10 countries. Dr. Praveen Chandra noted India's significance in the trial due to its high-risk coronary disease population.

The trial involves the Protégé™ Paclitaxel-Coated Balloon, aiming to advance evidence-based innovation in cardiology. Translumina sponsors the SPARX Global RCT.
