VERBUND AG Reports Decreased Earnings Due to Low Water Supply

VERBUND AG experienced a decline in earnings for the first quarter of 2025, attributed to significantly low water supply. The company's EBITDA fell 18.1% to €723.9 million compared to the same period last year. The Group result also decreased by 21.6% to €396.7 million. A decrease in hydropower generation led to a drop of 2,425 GWh, while wind and photovoltaic generation fell by 58.4 GWh.

Despite increased thermal power generation, overall production was still 21.3% lower than the previous year. However, higher average sales prices from early sales allowed VERBUND to capitalize on elevated wholesale electricity prices. Improved performance in the Grid and Sales segments also contributed positively.

The company has adjusted its earnings forecast for 2025, expecting an EBITDA of €2,700m - €3,200m and planning a payout ratio of 45% - 55% of the Group result. These forecasts depend on stability in legal and regulatory conditions.
