Vulcan Energy Secures Second Lithium Licence for Lionheart Project

Vulcan Energy Resources Limited has obtained its second lithium production licence for the Lionheart Project in the Upper Rhine Valley Brine Field. Issued by the Mining Authority of Rhineland-Palatinate, this marks a key step towards Vulcan’s 2028 production target. The licence encompasses the Landau geothermal production permit, already operational in renewable heat production.

The Lionheart Project, under construction, aims to produce 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate annually, sufficient for approximately 500,000 electric vehicle batteries, alongside substantial renewable power and heat output. The Ilka licence is valid until September 2032, after which Vulcan plans to merge it with an earlier licence for extended project duration.

Cris Moreno, Managing Director and CEO, noted the significance of this development in solidifying Vulcan's position as a major European lithium producer. The project remains on track for its 2028 operational goal.
