Waga Energy and Casella inaugurate a new biomethane unit in Pennsylvania
Waga Energy and Casella Waste Systems have announced the start-up of their third biomethane production unit in McKean, Pennsylvania. This project is part of a program that began in 2023 and already includes two other facilities in the United States.
WAGABOX® technology, used to convert waste gas into biomethane, enables this new unit to produce up to 120 GWh of renewable gas per year. This initiative contributes to reducing annual CO₂ emissions by 31,000 tonnes, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Funded by Waga Energy, the unit will be operated for twenty years, with profits from the sale of biomethane shared with Casella. This achievement represents progress in the partnership between the two companies to provide a renewable alternative to fossil gas.
