WHO Foundation and Novo Nordisk Expand Health System Support
The WHO Foundation has announced an expanded partnership with Novo Nordisk to combat cardio-renal-metabolic diseases globally. Novo Nordisk will contribute USD 7.9 million, including an initial USD 2.9 million in 2024 and an additional USD 5 million in 2025.
This funding aims to bolster WHO efforts in preventing noncommunicable diseases by strengthening primary health care in low- and middle-income countries. These regions often face severe health system capacity constraints. The collaboration focuses on obesity and diabetes, seeking to enhance prevention, early detection, and care.
Globally, over 1 billion individuals suffer from obesity, presenting a major health challenge as obesity rates have nearly tripled since 1975. This strategic partnership intends to empower countries with the necessary resources and evidence-based approaches for impactful health interventions.
