H1 2026
ASKLEPIOS maintains positive operating performance under challenging conditions
  • Increase of 8.0% in number of patients treated to 2,086,056
  • Consolidated revenue up 4.8% on the same period of the previous year at EUR 3,297.8 million
  • Hospital landscape experiencing a period of profound transformation due to reforms

Hamburg, 27 August 2026 – The ASKLEPIOS Group continued its positive operating performance in the first half of 2026, maintaining a high standard of care across the Group. A total of 2,086,056 patients were treated in the first six months of the financial year. Compared to the same period last year (previous year: 1,931,218 patients), this corresponds to an increase of 8.0%.

The number of inpatient cases rose to 412,964 in the first half of 2026, exceeding the previous year’s 395,014 cases by 4.5%. At the same time, the outpatient services sector saw further growth, with outpatient numbers rising by 8.9% to 1,673,092 (previous year: 1,536,204).

Service volumes increased overall, and the Group generated revenue of EUR 3,297.8 million, an increase of 4.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. EBITDA rose 8.1% to EUR 323.4 million, improving the EBITDA margin to 9.8%. Consolidated earnings after tax (EAT) increased from EUR 86.3 million in the previous year to EUR 90.2 million. While the earnings trend was also positive, the EAT margin remained at the same level as in the previous year at 2.7%.

The operating environment in the German hospital sector is going through a period of rapid change. In addition to continuing inflation-related pressure and rising costs, regulatory and health policy measures in particular are increasingly having an impact on the economic outlook of hospital operators. Recent industry surveys indicate that rising inpatient and outpatient volumes are, in many cases, insufficient to achieve sustainable financial improvement for hospitals.

The ongoing implementation of the hospital reform is a key factor influencing the sector’s further development. In particular, the changes associated with the Hospital Reform Adjustment Act (KHAG), the introduction of new care and financing structures, including hybrid DRGs, and the negative effects from support measures under the GKV Financial Stabilisation Act (GKV-FinStG) coming to an end, as well as the latest measures to stabilise the GKV contribution rates, are exacerbating the financial challenges for hospitals. At the same time, hybrid DRGs are driving the trend towards outpatient care and reshaping healthcare delivery models. The long-term effects on revenue structures, investment incentives and the economic stability of the sector remain highly uncertain. Given the business performance to date, ASKLEPIOS can confirm its forecast for the 2026 financial year of moderate organic growth in revenue as well as a slight improvement in the key performance indicators.

CEO Joachim Gemmel:
“The hospital landscape is experiencing a period of transformation. Despite increasing patient numbers and dynamic development in the outpatient sector, the financial situation of many hospitals remains strained. At the same time, hospital reform, service groups, hybrid DRGs, and the shift towards outpatient care are fundamentally changing healthcare structures. ASKLEPIOS recognised this development at an early stage and has proactively shaped the Group’s strategy around it. With targeted investments, the expansion of cross-sector care options and the digitalisation of central processes, we are setting the stage to meet the future requirements of the healthcare sector.”

CEO Marco Walker:
“The results for the first half of the year underscore the ASKLEPIOS Group’s financial stability and operational performance. Our diversified business model, the strong network across our sites and the implementation of our long-term strategy provide a solid foundation for long-term economic success. This is underpinned by a sound financial and liquidity position, as well as a debt ratio that remains moderate. In a market environment in which the financial position of many hospitals has not yet improved sustainably, despite rising service volumes and increasing outpatient care, these strengths are more important than ever. Hospital reform, hybrid DRGs and measures to stabilise the contribution rates of statutory health insurance are increasing the pressure within the industry to adapt.”
