DoorDash Adds Personalized AI Recommendations to Help Dashers Plan Their Working Hours
San Francisco, California, November 4th, 2026, FinanceWire
The latest Dasher app update introduces conversational planning support, helping experienced delivery workers organize their schedules around personal commitments and local opportunities.
DoorDash is expanding the capabilities of its Dasher app with new artificial intelligence features designed to make delivery planning more personalized. Announced at Dash Forward 2026 on September 30, the update introduces AI-powered recommendations that help experienced Dashers decide when and where they may want to work.
The new tools are part of DoorDash’s wider effort to make its delivery platform more useful for independent delivery workers. Instead of relying entirely on manual planning, Dashers can ask questions in their own words and receive suggestions based on their circumstances and available information.
For Dashers who balance delivery work with other responsibilities, the feature offers another way to organize their time and consider available delivery opportunities.
A More Personalized Way to Schedule Deliveries
Planning a delivery session often involves checking different parts of the Dasher app, reviewing available scheduling options, and understanding activity in nearby delivery zones. Experienced Dashers may also use their knowledge of local restaurants and customer ordering patterns to decide when to go online.
DoorDash’s latest update introduces a conversational approach to these decisions. A Dasher can simply ask a question such as, “When and where should I dash on Friday” The system can then provide a personalized suggestion, including a possible delivery window and location.
In its announcement, DoorDash shared an example of a recommendation for an 11 AM to 2 PM session in a Dasher’s neighborhood, allowing enough time to be home for school pickup.
The feature adds another layer to the existing Dasher experience. It is intended to support planning rather than replace the tools already available in the app. Recommendations are suggestions, and actual scheduling and delivery opportunities continue to depend on local availability.
Making Flexible Work Easier to Organize
Many people choose delivery work because it can fit around different lifestyles and responsibilities. A parent may have a few hours available between school drop-off and other household commitments. Someone studying or working another job may only have evenings or selected days available.
In these situations, deciding when to deliver can be just as important as deciding how long to work. Personalized recommendations can help Dashers consider their available time without having to manually compare every possible delivery period.
The approach also recognizes that every Dasher has different priorities. Someone looking to complete a short session may have different requirements from a person planning several hours of delivery activity.
Rather than offering the same general scheduling guidance to everyone, the AI-powered experience aims to make recommendations more relevant to an individual’s circumstances.
Using Local Information to Make Better Decisions
Delivery demand can change throughout the day and across different neighborhoods. Restaurant activity, customer ordering habits, weather conditions, and local events can all influence the number of available opportunities.
Lunch and dinner periods can be important times for delivery activity, although patterns differ between markets. Understanding these variations can help delivery workers decide which periods are worth considering.
DoorDash’s new feature is designed to bring more personalized guidance into this planning process. However, a suggested time or location should not be interpreted as a promise of available orders or a particular level of earnings.
Dashers remain responsible for reviewing delivery offers and making their own decisions about accepting work. They should also account for operating expenses, including fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, and mobile connectivity, when evaluating the value of delivery activity.
Part of DoorDash’s Wider AI Development
The personalized planning tools were announced alongside DashBuddy, another AI-powered initiative from DoorDash. While the new in-app recommendations focus on experienced delivery workers, DashBuddy is designed to help newcomers understand the platform.
Available through SMS in the United States and Canada, DashBuddy answers common questions about scheduling, hotspots, payments, and getting started. DoorDash reported that more than 200,000 Dashers had used the assistant as of September 2026.
The two initiatives address different stages of the Dasher experience, providing introductory assistance for newcomers and more personalized planning support for experienced delivery workers.
