Encavis commissions 15 MW battery storage system in the Netherlands
Hamburg, 15 April 2026 – Encavis, a next‑generation independent power producer (IPP) headquartered in Hamburg, has reached another milestone in the expansion of its battery storage portfolio. The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located in Beemte Broekland near Apeldoorn in the Netherlands has successfully reached Commercial Operation Date (COD) and is now fully operational.
With a power capacity of 15 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 30 megawatt hours (MWh), the grid‑scale battery strengthens flexibility and stability in the Dutch electricity system. The system delivers fast and reliable balancing services, supporting the efficient integration of renewable energy precisely when and where flexibility is required.
The BESS is co‑located with the Encavis solar park Bloemenkamp, allowing locally generated solar power to be stored and dispatched during periods of high demand or grid stress. The battery will participate in a broad range of flexibility markets, including Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR), aFRR and mFRR services, imbalance markets and congestion management.
The project reflects a strong partnership across the value chain. Developed by Green Energy Storage and delivered in close cooperation with Alfen as EPC contractor, the BESS brings together proven expertise in development, engineering and system integration. With CATL EnerOne+ battery technology and Greenchoice acting as offtaker and market interface, the project is built on long‑term, reliable partnerships that enable efficient execution.
“With the Apeldoorn battery now operational, we are further expanding our ability to deliver integrated energy solutions to our customers,” says Mario Schirru, CEO of Encavis. “The combination of renewable generation, battery storage and demand‑oriented market optimisation allows us to provide clean electricity when it is needed most.”
