H&R GmbH & Co. KGaA: Preliminary Figures for First Half of 2026

  • Sales revenues reach EUR 700.4 million (HY1-2025: EUR 653.1 million)
  • EBITDA at EUR 84.4 million significantly improved to previous year (HY1-2025: EUR 40.1 million)

Salzbergen, Germany, July 29, 20265. H&R GmbH & Co. KGaA (short: H&R KGaA; ISIN DE000A2E4T77) reported the improvement in its financial metrics at the end of the first half of 2026 that had already been indicated several weeks ago. According to preliminary calculations, the Group’s operating result (EBITDA – consolidated earnings before income taxes, other financing income and expenses, depreciation, amortization, impairments, and reversals of impairments on intangible assets and property, plant and equipment) amounted to EUR 62.5 million in the second quarter, significantly exceeding both the beginning of the year and the compared prior-year quarter (Q2 2025: EUR 17.8 million). The other earnings levels also improved substantially. EBIT reached EUR 49.9 million, compared with EUR 3.1 million in the prior year. Earnings before taxes (EBT) amounted to EUR 46.8 million in the second quarter of 2026 (Q2 2025: EUR 0.2 million). Net income attributable to shareholders totaled EUR 37.7 million (Q2 2025: EUR -1.6 million). Accordingly, earnings per share showed a strong profit of EUR 1.01. Revenue in the second quarter of the current fiscal year increased to EUR 400.3 million (Q2 2025: EUR 307.3 million), driven by higher feedstock prices resulting from the situation in the Persian Gulf.

Looking at the first half of 2026, the company achieved an improved preliminary operating result (EBITDA) of EUR 84.4 million (H1 2025: EUR 40.1 million). Due to lower depreciation and amortization compared with the previous year, all other earnings metrics over the six-month period were also significantly above prior-year levels. EBIT amounted to EUR 59.4 million (H1 2025: EUR 10.9 million). Earnings before taxes (EBT) recovered to EUR 53.5 million (H1 2025: EUR 4.9 million). Net income attributable to shareholders reached an improved EUR 41.6 million (H1 2025: EUR 0.3 million). Primarily supported by the strong second quarter of 2026, H&R KGaA generated earnings per share of EUR 1.12 for the first half of the year. Revenue for the six-month period amounted to EUR 700.4 million (H1 2025: EUR 653.1 million).

The principal contribution to both quarterly and half-year results came from the ChemPharm Refining segment. Operating earnings improved in the second quarter of 2026 alone to EBITDA of EUR 47.5 million (Q2 2025: EUR 13.0 million). For the six-month period, the segment generated EBITDA of EUR 62.1 million (H1 2025: EUR 26.9 million), representing the largest and significantly improved earnings contribution. Driven by raw material prices, segment revenue exceeded the prior year and reached EUR 445.9 million in the first half (H1 2025: EUR 405.9 million).

The ChemPharm Sales segment also posted improvements. EBITDA contributions of EUR 16.9 million (Q2 2025: EUR 8.1 million) and EUR 25.7 million (H1 2025: EUR 17.8 million) surpassed prior-year levels. Revenue also recovered noticeably, reaching EUR 134.9 million in the second quarter of 2026 (Q2 2025: EUR 113.4 million) and EUR 246.3 million for the first half of the year (H1 2025: EUR 237.1 million).

The Plastics segment showed only marginal improvement by mid-year. It generated a slightly better operating result of EUR -1.7 million compared with the previous year’s first half (H1 2025: EUR -1.9 million). The second quarter of 2026 accounted for EUR -0.8 million of this result (Q2 2025: EUR -1.5 million). Revenue declined further to EUR 8.2 million and EUR 16.0 million, respectively, compared with the prior-year periods (Q2 2025: EUR 9.2 million; H1 2025: EUR 18.9 million).

Operating cash flow declined in the second quarter of 2026 to EUR -22.5 million (Q2 2025: EUR 32.7 million) due to sharply increased feedstock costs following the outbreak of war between the United States and Iran and the resulting higher net working capital requirements. Free cash flow amounted to EUR -32.5 million (Q2 2025: EUR 22.8 million). For the first half of the year, operating cash flow stood at EUR 2.4 million (H1 2025: EUR 24.6 million), while free cash flow amounted to EUR -19.5 million (H1 2025: EUR 5.1 million).

As of June 30, 2026, balance sheet total amounted to EUR 1,033.9 million (December 31, 2025: EUR 916.2 million). Equity increased significantly over the same period to EUR 471.4 million (December 31, 2025: EUR 416.1 million). As of June 30, 2026, the company’s equity ratio stood at 45.6% (December 31, 2025: 45.4%).

The company had a subdued start to the fiscal year but gained momentum during the second quarter of 2026. As a result, we already achieved the lower end of our original full-year EBITDA guidance range (EUR 85.0–100.0 million) by the halfway point of the year. Future performance will depend largely on whether the current exceptional situation—primarily driven by the consequences of the war—persists, or whether key factors such as demand, pricing, and feedstock availability develop in a fundamentally different way. At present, we expect to exceed the upper end of our original EBITDA guidance range. We will therefore refine our outlook accordingly. Final financial results and further information on business performance in 2026 will be published as scheduled in the Half-Year Report on August 14, 2026.
