Salinas del Rey, the South American jewel that is consolidating its position in world kitesurfing

From 1st to 5th of March, Salinas del Rey (Colombia) became, for the second consecutive year, the world capital of kitesurfing; the best 40 kitesurfers in the world in male and female categories took the beaches of Salinas del Rey during the celebration of the second stop of the GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup 2023.

Five days where the wind never stopped and allowed the thousands of people who came to enjoy this spectacle. On Saturday the finals were held where the Brazilian Carlo Mario Bebe beat the Swiss Maxime Chabloz and the reigning world champion, the Italian Gianmaria Coccoluto. In the women's category, the world's number one kitesurfer, Mikaili "Mika" Sol, once again emerged as the leader of the competition, followed by Spain's Claudia León and Sweden's Nathalie Lambrecht.

Sunday concluded the event with a Big Air exhibition with huge jumps and acrobatics by the riders that delighted the thousands of people who came to enjoy the World Cup on the beaches of Salinas, a magical and vibrant atmosphere where they could also enjoy a gastronomic experience and crafts in a few intense days of sun, beach, and wind.

All this together with the interest that this sport is awakening among the local population, which massively supported the event, have been the key ingredients to ensure the success of this stage of the GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup 2023 that comes from making the first stop in Qatar and continues in Cape Verde in mid-March.

Salinas del Rey is a small coastal town on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, belonging to the department of Atlantico, and where you can breathe breeze, sea and adrenaline; a treasure, unknown to many, which emerges as the new jewel of kitesurfing lovers and aspires to become the South American mecca of Kitesurfing.

While in other parts of the world the cold hits hard in Salinas del Rey between the months of December and May, its pleasant climate, the continuous presence of strong and constant winds and its privileged location, just 40 Km from two international airports: Barranquilla and Cartagena de Indias are formidable for fans of water sports and adventure tourism.
