Mate Security Wins CyberSecurity Breakthrough Award With an Open Foundation for Agentic Cyberdefense

New York, United States, October 8th, 2026, FinanceWire

Mate Security has been selected as the winner of the “Security Response Solution of the Year” award in the 10th annual CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards program from CyberSecurity Breakthrough, recognizing its approach to building an open foundation for agentic cyberdefense. The award highlights a model in which AI agents can investigate, make evidence-based decisions and respond across an organization’s existing security environment.

That emphasis on an open foundation reflects a larger challenge facing enterprise security teams. Organizations rarely operate with a single security product. Their environments contain identity systems, endpoints, cloud infrastructure, security monitoring tools and other technologies, creating a large amount of information that must be understood together.

Mate is building its platform around the idea that AI agents need a shared context layer to operate effectively across that environment.

An AI Layer Across Existing Security Infrastructure

Rather than positioning AI agents as replacements for every security tool already deployed, Mate describes its platform as an open foundation for agentic cyberdefense.

Its agents are designed to investigate alerts, reach evidence-based verdicts and respond across an organization’s existing stack.

The foundation is a context layer that gives agents a broader understanding of how the organization functions. That information is represented through Mate’s Security Context Graph, which acts as a living model of security knowledge and relationships.

The graph can capture asset ownership, dependencies, business criticality, privileged identities and applicable policies.

That approach is intended to allow AI agents to understand the relationship between a security event and the organization around it.

Building a Shared Context Layer

Mate’s Reason Mining engine populates the Security Context Graph, converting organizational data into knowledge that agents can use when investigating security events.

This is important because security alerts rarely exist in isolation.

A suspicious activity involving a business-critical system can carry a different level of risk from a similar event involving a less important asset. The identity involved, the system’s dependencies and the applicable policy can all influence the appropriate response.

Mate uses that context to help agents assess potential blast radius before taking action.

“Precision and reversibility require organizational context. That means for agents to act with precision, alerts need to be evaluated in relation to the specific business environment rather than in isolation. “When we started Mate, we knew we had to build context and trust into our product,” said Asaf Wiener, co-founder and CEO of Mate Security. “Enterprises need security platforms that can not only act faster but also make the right decisions with enough context at scale. We are answering that need and are grateful to CyberSecurity Breakthrough for this award. We will continue moving fast and stay laser-focused on our customers, as we proudly build the foundation for agentic cyberdefense in the AI era.״

Making Autonomous Response More Precise

Context is paired with Mate’s Confidence, Precision, and Reversibility framework.

The CPR framework evaluates every proposed response according to the certainty of the conclusion, the precision of the action and whether the action can be undone. The system also considers the agent’s measured track record on similar cases.

The result is designed to favor narrowly scoped containment.

A suspicious session can be revoked without disabling an entire account. A malicious URL can be blocked without blocking its entire domain. A compromised host can be isolated without taking down an entire segment.

"CPR weighs the risk of acting against the risk of not acting. A human can decide fast, and an agent acts on its own only when acting is the safer choice," said Inbal Argov, VP Product Strategy at Mate Security, who created the CPR framework.

Why the Model Matters

CyberSecurity Breakthrough managing director Steve Johansson said the ability to automate response is particularly difficult because of the consequences associated with incorrect decisions.

“Mate compresses multi-day MTTR to minutes with real organizational context. Response is the hardest part to automate because a wrong action can damage the entire business. From isolating a production host to revoking a shared credential, this can cost more than the incident. So, most actions are routed through human approval, and that delay is costly in the age of AI-related attacks,” said Steve Johansson, managing director, CyberSecurity Breakthrough.

The 2026 awards program received thousands of nominations from organizations in more than 20 countries, marking the 10th anniversary of the CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards.

Mate’s recognition comes as enterprise security increasingly moves toward agentic systems. The company’s proposition is that the next generation of security automation will require more than capable AI models. It will require an understanding of the organizations those models are being asked to protect and a way to translate that understanding into precise, governed action.
