AutoLog project brings together Neolix, Espaces-Mobilités and Stalem to test L4 autonomous RoboVans for last-mile delivery and waste collection in central Brussels.
BRUSSELS, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Neolix, a global leader in autonomous RoboVans deployed at commercial scale for urban logistics, is partnering with Brussels-based mobility consultancy Espaces-Mobilités and local non-profit Stalem to pilot electric L4 autonomous delivery vehicles in central Brussels as part of the AutoLog project.
The 12-month pilot will explore how autonomous vehicles can be integrated into urban logistics operations, with applications including last-mile delivery and waste collection. Subject to the required federal testing authorisations, operations are targeted to begin in Q4 2026.
The project brings together autonomous driving technology, urban mobility expertise and local operational capabilities to assess how autonomous logistics can work safely and effectively within an existing city environment.
Testing autonomous logistics in a real urban environment
Under the pilot, Neolix Xolra RoboVans will operate on a designated urban route connecting a depot near Gare du Midi with shops on the southern edge of Brussels' pedestrianised city centre.
The vehicles are designed to complement, rather than replace, existing urban delivery solutions such as cargo bikes. The pilot will examine whether autonomous vehicles can help reduce unnecessary delivery trips, congestion, emissions and noise, while maintaining a strong focus on road safety and community engagement.
In coordination with relevant Belgian and Brussels authorities, the pilot is designed not only as a vehicle test, but as a collaborative exploration of how autonomous logistics can fit into the wider urban mobility system. The federal testing authorisation application has been submitted to the Belgian Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport, while discussions are also underway with regional and city authorities.
Elke Van den Brandt, Minister of Mobility of the Brussels Region said: " Brussels has pedestrianised its city centre and cut motorised traffic by a quarter. The last-mile challenge remains: deliveries, waste collection, urban freight flows. This pilot asks a precise question — can autonomous logistics integrate into that environment safely, quietly, and without consuming the public space we have worked so hard to reclaim?"
The pilot has been developed in coordination with federal, regional and Brussels-City authorities. The federal testing authorisation is now in formal review at the Belgian Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport, with the associated regional and municipal steps advancing on the same timeline.

From pilot to scalable European deployment
The AutoLog pilot will provide an opportunity to evaluate autonomous logistics technology and the broader issues of urban mobility, regulation, infrastructure, operations and public-road integration.
Beyond technological testing, the initiative will actively support the local economy by creating dedicated operational roles that enhance customer proximity and service quality while eliminating redundant travel. In the pilot phase, each vehicle is supported by a two-person logistics team (depot coordinator + customer-facing specialist) handling loading, delivery and waste operations — not vehicle supervision. The vehicle-to-staff ratio is designed to scale materially at commercial rollout.
The pilot project will generate practical lessons for the future deployment of autonomous logistics solutions in Brussels and other European cities. "Autonomous logistics is the next 'big thing', and few people realise that tens of thousands of vehicles operate every day in Asia," said Xavier Tackoen, Partner at Espaces-Mobilités.
