New York Medical Center (NYMC) has announced that it is preparing to open its first patient care unit in August 2026, marking a major milestone in the restoration of healthcare services for Chautauqua County and communities throughout Western New York. The opening represents the first operational phase of a broader initiative to transform the once-vacant hospital into a modern healthcare facility focused on delivering accessible, high-quality behavioral health and addiction treatment.

The August opening follows months of extensive redevelopment across the hospital campus, where construction teams have worked to convert empty clinical spaces into fully operational patient care environments. Phase One has centered on the third floor of the facility, where patient rooms, staff offices, treatment areas, dining facilities and critical infrastructure have been completed in preparation for the arrival of the hospital’s first patients.

The milestone reflects the vision of Nicholas DiTommaso, Principal Manager of New York Medical Center, who has played a central role in guiding the redevelopment of the facility from an inactive hospital into a healthcare campus designed to serve one of New York’s most underserved regions.

Additional work has included the completion of patient support spaces, staff offices, utility rooms, laundry facilities and a newly designed dining and café area that will serve both patients and healthcare professionals.

As a dedicated behavioral health and addiction treatment facility, NYMC has placed particular emphasis on creating an environment that prioritizes patient safety, comfort and dignity. Every phase of construction has been planned to support the delivery of specialized care while meeting the operational standards required for modern healthcare facilities.
