Spiritfilled’s Mythical Beasts Whisky Receives a Gold Outstanding Medal at the 2026 IWSC

The independent Scottish whisky maker’s recent win at the 2026 International Wine & Spirit Competition places it among six Scotch whiskies to receive the competition’s highest distinction.

Spiritfilled, a Scottish independent bottler and whisky cask broker, has received a Gold Outstanding medal and 98 points for its Mythical Beasts Aberlour 13 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky at the 2026 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). 

This score ultimately placed the brand among only six Scotch whiskies to receive the competition’s highest distinction for the year, marking the Aberlour 13 Year Old as a spirit that managed to successfully make use of its cask’s oaken qualities without allowing them to overwhelm it. 

On Aberlour 13 Year Old

The Aberlour 13 Year Old is a Speyside single malt presented under Spiritfilled’s Mythical Beasts label, a release the company only produces upon discovering an exceptionally rare and high-quality cask. In the case of the Aberlour 13 Year Old, the whisky was aged in an oak cask for 13 years and released only once Spiritfilled determined the timing was absolutely right.

The IWSC judges’ tasting note described the spirit as follows: “A beautifully complex aroma unfolds with tobacco leaves, cocoa nibs and subtle hints of coffee beans, all wrapped in honey. The palate is decadently rich, bursting with cinder toffee and stroopwafel sweetness, balanced by soft spices and creamy vanilla.”

In addition to producing its own whiskies through its Mythical Beasts label, Spiritfilled’s wider business includes sourcing, storing, and bottling whisky casks through its bonded warehouse operation in Scotland. This operation, dubbed “Braeside Bond,” also offers whisky investing services wherein investors can select, store, mature, and exit cask holdings with Spiritfilled’s support.

Investors can choose whisky casks based on their age, type, location, and price. Each cask comes with three years of storage and insurance, giving the whisky time to develop in flavor and increase in value under the right circumstances. Investors may choose to visit and even sample their cask at any point. Once investors decide the time is right to exit their investment, Spiritfilled will arrange the process for them, handling approaches such as selling, changing investments, and listing casks in special auctions.
